LinkedIn is a professional social network. It is designed more for people wishing to focus on their business interests including networking, job searches, and business promotions. Each account is set up to display your “resume” and then there are also Company Pages and Topical Groups that you can start or become involved with to further market yourself.
LinkedIn Account Setup
We know how busy life can be, so even though LinkedIn is relatively easy to setup, we’ve created a service to help do it for you. This entails working with you to get you signed up with a standard LinkedIn account. We will walk through all the steps with you (typically while you are on the phone) to enter your complete “resume” describing thoroughly who you are so that we can created a professional looking account. We will help you post your picture on to your account, show you how to request recommendations, and make sure all the settings are in good order.
LinkedIn Instructional Classes & Videos
In general, LinkedIn is really easy to use. Most people find that they can figure it out… But, not all of us are that good at learning software and are adaptable to change. So, we do offer “Instructional Classes” that are personal to you. These can be done on the phone (using remote access into your computer), can be Instructional Videos where we walk you through things and you can watch it over and over again, and/or can be done in person if you are in the Flagstaff area. The cost is dependent on how long the class(es) are and how quickly you learn.
LinkedIn Business Services
Using a basic LinkedIn account has a direct focus on “you” because you are posting your resume. If you wish to concentrate on a business or genre, then you should create a Business Page or Topical Group.
For a Business Page, we would go in and set it up for you. They typically want biographical and historical information about your company, your logo, website address, etc… It’s a fairly basic company page. LinkedIn hasn’t widely promoted these yet, but they do exist. Not many companies that we know of have opted for this element, but it is one more place to market yourself in a relatively inexpensive manner. Please note that you will want to periodically post some sort of announcements on this page too.
For the Topical Groups, you would become the moderator of the Group and thereby decide what is posted and who can post to your group. This would allow you to focus on direct promotion for your business with others within your market. There are lots of moderation settings, but in order to be effective you would want practically anyone to be able to join and anyone to be able to post to it. You want involvement! So, as others join and post, you would want to keep an eye on it and make sure things are running the way you want.
LinkedIn Maintenance Plan
We understand that using these accounts successfully can be a little difficult over time. Thus, we’ve created a maintenance plan to help you. The main focus of this plan is help you continue to expand your “connections” each month, so you get more and more exposure. We also help you if you have questions about functions within your account. We WILL NOT be posting content to your account as a part of this plan. We feel strongly that you should be posting your own information to personally control how you are represented. What we will do is help you do this successfully!
A Rule: Post Your Own Content
With all of the “Social Media” sites, we strongly recommend that you post your own content. You are your best representative, and thus will know what to post and what to respond when others ask questions or post comments.
Some of our clients have expressed reservations about the time it will take to do this, but we wish to make you realize that you can post as much or as little as you wish. There are no deadlines or rules to how much you must post. As with anything, the more involved you are the more successful it tends to be… Never feel pressured by having to post information. One posting a month with good content is far more effective than daily postings that don’t say anything and become junk to the reader. The only thing we stress about this is that you do post something periodically. Having a dead account is worse marketing than not having it at all. So, as long as you are willing to periodically post to your Social Media, then it is a great marketing resource.
