I had an interesting conversation with a new client this past week that I thought I’d share. And, it comes with a recommendation…!
As you all probably know, lawyers can be difficult to deal with in business. Over the years, I’ve had a few lawyer clients and it just hasn’t gone well. They are picky about how they want things, they rarely are willing to sign a contract without ripping it apart, and they are clearly used to getting their way and will argue it to death if they don’t. So, I’ve actually made it a policy to not take lawyers as clients.
Last fall, I had a lawyer contact me for a website. The first thing I said to her was what I just wrote… I expressed that I typically don’t take lawyer clients and why. I was honest about it. And, she was just as honest back to me. She told me she would work with me at every step and would respect how I like to do my business because she had decided that I was the right person to work with her. She treated me as a professional from the start and so I broke my rule and decided to take the project.
Now I have to say that this was one of the smoothest projects I’ve ever worked on. I’ve been dealing with clients for about 18 years now, and I’ve seen all types. The hardest part of my job is usually digging the “content” for a website out of the client. It is work for the client and most of them don’t realize how much they will have to do to make the project happen. Just so you can take this in prospective, I currently have 4 projects in “pending” because the client hasn’t gotten me their stuff. More than one of them has been OVER A YEAR in getting me the content. So, you can see, this truly is the hardest and most frustrating part.
So, with trepidation, I went into this project with Munro Law PLLC. And, I was thoroughly surprised. Kathryn Munro and her office assistant, William, were great to work with. They got me all of their content quickly and efficiently. As I asked for additional pieces, they actually responded immediately to every email and then got me what I needed. They picked up the phone and called, and answered the phone when I called The project came together smoothly, professionally, and I did not have to delay or reschedule my life the way most are to deal with.
At the end of the project, during a conversation where I was completing their Google+/Maps and Yelp listings, Kathryn pointedly asked me how I felt about working with her. We were talking about Google/Yelp Reviews and she said, “So, how would you review us…” I honestly could say that they were great to work with. I completely look forward to having them as clients for many, many years to come.
I have never hired Munro Law PLLC for estate planning, but if how they worked with me on the project is any representation on how they treat their clients, I would hire them in a second!
