Standard Pages in a
Website
Return to
Web Design
Almost every website
we create starts with a standard set of pages. A website
should tell people all about your business or organization in a
neat, compact, interactive, and functional package.
Here
are pages that are in almost every site we design:
|
Homepage
|
This
is the first page everyone sees. It needs to be direct
and tell people who and what you are. It usually
contains your logo, a couple of short description
paragraphs, some pictures, and the navigational structure
of your site. |
| About
Us/History |
It
is important for people to think that your business or
organization is credible. They want to know who you
really are before the purchase anything, join, or donate
funds. This page is where you give a full
description of who you are. |
| Contact
Information |
One
of the worst things you can do is hide your contact
information. Having a separate page with your Name,
Address, Phone, Fax, and Email Address can make all the
difference between someone using your services or moving
on to another place. We want to make it easy for
people to contact you. |
| Comment
Form |
Another
standard format for people to ask questions or tell you what
they think, is a Comment Form. Having this form makes it
very simple for someone to tell you who they are and what they
need. Good communication can make all the difference!
|
| Links
and Affiliations |
Listing
helpful links and those places you are affiliated with is
always a good idea. This page serves many purposes: 1)
you can't get everything on your site, so you link up to other
places to fill in the gaps; 2) it is a great place to thank
people who have helped you; 3) it gives you a page to place
reciprocal links from other sites that give you a link; and 4)
having other resources on your site gains you credibility with
the public and the search engines.
|
| The
rest of your site is personalized to your business or
organization. It is comprised of a full breakdown of
all of your Services, Products, and Specialties.
This content is what makes your site different and unique
from all the others. |
Other possible
sections/functions on your site: Donation Forms, Legal
Disclaimers, Shopping Carts,
Online Calendars, Weather Boxes, Local Information Resources, Banner
Ads, Hit Counters, Downloadable Forms, Search Engines, and many other
fun and interactive design elements.
